Kelseyville varsity volleyball improves to 11-2 with NCL I interlock win over Middletown

MIDDLETOWN >> The Middletown Mustangs put up a fight before falling 25-17, 25-17, 17-25, 25-13 to the Kelseyville Knights in North Central League I varsity volleyball interlock action Thursday evening in Middletown.
“These Mustangs hustled hard all night,” Middletown head coach Erika Galvan said. “I’m pleased with how they communicated and worked together tonight. We had good leadership on the court with Jordyn (Harbison), and she kept the girls focused on the game and the next point. She is our glue.”
Harbison had 22 digs on 23 serve receptions for the Mustangs (8-9) along with five assists and one ace.
Cassidy Hanson, a freshman, and Olivia Bushey, a junior, led Kelseyville (11-2) with 11 kills apiece. Madison Byrne added six kills, two blocks and 13 digs. Hanson also had 16 digs.
“Both setters, Riley (Hanson) and Brooklyn (Young), had to hustle to get to the ball all night,” Kelseyville head coach Donelle McCallister said. “Middletown had a great serving night, and it threw us out of system more than usual.”
Riley Hanson finished with a team-best 18 assists and 13 digs while Grace Peterson had 10 digs.
Other Middletown leaders were Chloe Pulido with seven service points, including five aces, Bridget Lisenbee with seven assists and five aces, and Emma Davis with 10 kills and three aces.
“Emma Davis had a good passing game,” Galvan said. “There were some great plays from all the ladies tonight.”
Kelseyville won the junior varsity match 25-9, 25-13 behind six kills and four aces from Nya Martinez, six digs from Allison Leary, and eight assists and four kills from Kaia Bohan.
“Mali Rico was really scrambling as the second setter,” Kelseyville head coach Maille McCallister said. “She did a great job.”
For Middletown, Cassidy Duval led the way with 16 digs and two kills, and Bella Loyola had five assists.
“We were down to seven girls tonight, so everyone got lots of time on the court,” Galvan said. “They are starting to get the hang of our new rotation and worked well as a team.”
Middletown’s JVs play in the Rancho Cotate Tournament on Saturday. Both the JV and varsity teams are on the road Tuesday to open their NCL I South schedule against Roseland University Prep. Kelseyville’s teams are home Tuesday to play Clear Lake in the NCL I North opener for both schools.
