Clear Lake scores early, often in 6-1 non-league home victory against South Fork

LAKEPORT >> Hailey Perez scored twice to help the Clear Lake High School girls soccer team return to the win column with a 6-1 non-league win over the South Fork Cubs on Wednesday evening in Lakeport.
Clear Lake (7-2-1) had lost two straight entering play, that after opening its season 6-0-1.
Jeanette Luevano, Sellena Carbajal, Camara Wittman and Jasmine Buglione had Clear Lake’s other goals. The Cardinals did all of their scoring in the first half, including four goals in the first 10 minutes.
“After two hard losses we were able to come back strong and play a really fun game where everyone got a lot of playing time, some even scoring their first goal,” Clear Lake head coach Gustavo Carbajal said.
Carbajal emptied his bench early on against South Fork.
“We believe in letting all of our players get minutes in a match whenever possible,” Carbajal said. “Running up the score on a team is not our style and doesn’t help players on either team.”
Added Carbajal, “And we have to remember these are all kids out here and at the end of the day our job as coaches is to groom and help them, not break their spirits.”
Clear Lake resumes its North Central League I schedule Thursday in Willits at 5 p.m.
