Mustangs open cross country season with race in Vacaville

VACAVILLE >> Middletown High School cross country opened its season Saturday at the Lagoon Valley Classic in Vacaville where sophomore Charlize Hill posted a fifth-place finish in the frosh-soph girls division.
Hill, competing in a field of 106 runners, completed the 2-mile course in 14 minutes, 1.7 seconds.
“We have a budding star in Charlie Hill,” Middletown head coach Taylor Tiraterra said. “Also a great first race for Tucker West, who medaled in his freshman race.”
West placed 17th out of 68 runners in the boys freshman race with a 2-mile time of 13:26.8.
In the small-school varsity boys race, Isael Haro finished 74th in a field of 163 runners, crossing the finish line with a 3-mile time o 19:15.9. Teammate Ren Ueno was 89th in 20:11.3.
In the small-school varsity girls race, a 3-mile event, Lupita Cabrera placed 62nd in 25:37.6.
Middletown opens its Coastal Mountain Conference schedule Wednesday in Cloverdale at the Asti course. Action begins at 3:30 p.m.
