Clear Lake hosts Calistoga on Wednesday before opening league Thursday in Kelseyville

CALISTOGA >> Clear Lake’s defense allowed only its second goal of the season, but the Cardinals quickly rallied while going on to beat the Calistoga Wildcats 3-1 in non-league girls soccer action at Calistoga.
Clear Lake (5-0-1) has outscored the competition 16-2 in its first six games, and both of the goals allowed were the result of penalty kicks.
“The defense is doing an amazing job,” Clear Lake head coach Gustavo Carbajal said. “The midfielders have been working hard, and our forwards are doing a great job finishing. I’m a very happy coach.”
Calistoga took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick just five minutes into the game. Clear Lake pulled even before halftime on a Jeanette Luevano goal assisted by Aleeya Bondi.
Clear Lake dominated the second half, pushing ahead to stay on another Luevano goal and a Sellena Carbajal goal.
The Cardinals have one final tuneup before their North Central League I opener at Kelseyville on Thursday (4:30 p.m. start). Clear Lake hosts Calistoga on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
