Knights go 5-1 to claim volleyball championship at Upper Lake

UPPER LAKE >> Led by All-Tournament players Kaia Bohan, Gabby Keyes and Olivia Arredondo, the Kelseyville High School junior varsity volleyball team won the championship in the annual Cougar Invitational on Saturday in Upper Lake.
The Knights capped a 5-1 day on the court with a 25-22, 25-19 win over St. Helena in the tournament finals. Kelseyville advanced to the championship match with a win over Durham, a team that beat the Knights in pool play.
“The girls played really well and improved over the course of the day,” Kelseyville head coach Maille McCallister said. “They gave a lot of heart.”
Keyes led the Knights with 77 digs while Bohan had a team-best 24 kills. Arredondo finished with 23 kills. Bohan also had 26 digs, 18 aces and 32 digs. Other leaders were Bella Farfan Boyles with 44 kills, Nya Martinez with 23 aces (team high) and 17 kills, and Mali Rico with 37 assists (team high) and 15 aces. Ashley Cox added a team-best three blocks while Quinn Seifert had two.
“Annabelle Bader did a great job in the back row and with serve receive,” McCallister said.
Kelseyville beat Middletown and Ferndale while losing to Durham in pool play. In the playoff round, the Knights knocked off Cloverdale, Durham and St. Helena.
Kelseyville’s varsity won the Cougar Invitational title on Friday.
