Cloverdale sweeps Lower Lake in doubleheader

Eagles win final five North Central League I games to end season

CLOVERDALE >> The Cloverdale Eagles capped an interesting North Central League I varsity baseball season with a doubleheader sweep of the Lower Lake Trojans on Wednesday afternoon at City Park in Cloverdale.

Cloverdale beat Lower Lake 11-1 in the first game and 14-3 in game two, both five-inning contests because of the 10-run mercy rule.

The Eagles (5-9 league, 9-11 overall) lost their first nine league games before winning their last five. The Trojans finished 1-13 in league and 4-18-1, losers of their last nine games.

Austin Axell (game two) and Oren Fichtelberg (game one) pitched complete games for the Eagles, Axell striking out nine and Fichtelberg six.

Evan Robledo doubled and drove in four runs in game two while Cash Langston went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Coby Haug added a double and two RBIs.

In game one, Haug went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs while Axell went 2-for-3 with a RBI. Langston added a triple while Jose Damian had a two-run single.

Lower Lake completed a season-long streak of reporting nothing to Lake County Sports.
