LAKE COUNTY >> Kelseyville High School senior Maddy Borghesani, the No. 1 singles player for the Knights, has been named the most valuable player on the All-Coastal Mountain Conference North team as selected by the league’s coaches.

Because tennis is a co-ed sport in the Coastal Mountain Conference, Borghesani plays only boys during the regular season, battling the best of the best that the North has to offer.

“Solid year with losses to only the top boys in the section,” Kelseyville head coach Andy Dobusch said of last year’s runner-up in girls singles at the CMC Championships (which divides the competition into boys and girls divisions in singles and doubles). “She is the No. 3 in this year’s CMC Championship. She was a unanimous selection (for MVP).”

During her career, Borghesani has qualified twice for the NCS championships in doubles in addition to reaching the CMC girls singles finals a year ago. She is a two-year Kelseyville team captain and MVP.

Joining Borghesani on the All-North team is teammate Olivia Raabe, Middletown’s Will Hoskins and Harrison Brown, Mendocino’s Max Oatney, Anderson Valley’s Guy Kephart, and Willits’ Salissa Leon and Lissbeth Hernandez.

Seeded from Lake County in the CMC Championships, which take place Friday and Saturday in Rohnert Park are Borghesani, No. 3 in girls singles; Middletown’s Hoskins, No. 6 in boys singles; Raabe and Riley Hanson, No. 4 in girls doubles; and Leland Pike and Nalu Johnson, No. 4 in boys doubles.
