KELSEYVILLE >> Kelseyville turned back Laytonville 25-12, 25-18, 25-17 in North Central League I boys volleyball action Thursday night at Kelseyville.

“That was a good Laytonville team that we played tonight in their first year of boys volleyball,” Kelseyville head coach Kc White said. “They have really good hitters that challenged us quite a bit, but that was the best our block has been all season (six blocks total).”

Andon Beall’s 10 kills, four blocks, three digs and two aces propelled the Knights (4-1 league, 5-4 overall) while Kolby Medina added three kills. Diego Rico had 10 assists, two kills, three aces and two blocks.

“We made it a point to get the ball in the court with our serving and our hitting, and we did that extremely well in the first set, probably our best set of the season so far,” White said. “The last two sets we shoed our inexperience with our positioning on the court but compared to where we were in our first game a little over two weeks ago, we have improved immensely.”

Added White, “The leadership of the veteran players (Beall, Medina, Diego Serrato and Izeah Ely) was really evident out there tonight. Those guys have won back-to-back league championships and have that championship mentality. They know that every league game is important from here on out and played like it tonight. Their leadership is vital to our success.”

Kelseyville plays a non-league road match Wednesday against Ukiah High School. Action begins at 5 p.m.
