SAN RAFAEL >> Chris Salmina scored 19 points, including five 3-pointers, and Darin Sprague sank four free throws in succession in the fourth quarter to help lift the Kelseyville High School junior varsity boys basketball team to a 53-47 non-league win over Marin Academy on Saturday afternoon in San Rafael.
Sprague finished with 18 points despite having a tough game inside the paint, according to head coach Stan Weiper. He didn’t struggle at all from the free-throw line, drawing a shooting foul and making both free throws. A technical foul kept Sprague on the line for two more shots, and he made both, as the Knights held off Marin Academy down the stretch.
Salmina then added a 3-pointer to push Kelseyville’s lead to seven points.
“They did a better job penetrating inside than the other teams we’ve played against,” Weiper said of Marin Academy.
Kelseyville is 10-5 on the season. The Knights are on the road Tuesday when they put their league-leading 7-1 record on the line against the 6-2 Middletown Mustangs.
