ROSEVILLE >> Although seeded only 14th in her bracket, Kailaya Philpot of the Gladiators Wrestling Club placed second in the 127-pound bracket for fifth through eighth-graders during the Women’s West Coast Tournament of Champions on Saturday in Roseville.
Philpot advanced to the finals with four straight pins before losing her only match in the finals.
“The Women’s West Coast Tournament of Champions had top-tier wrestlers from all over the West Coach,” Gladiators coach Jonathan Philpot said. “It was a great competition that consisted of serious talent. She did extremely well in her bracket.”
A second Gladiators wrestler also took part in the tournament, but Nevaeh Barocio sustained an injury in a first-round match and had to withdraw.
