UPPER LAKE >> Upper Lake Middle School’s A boys basketball team opened the season with a 71-3 win over Anderson Valley on Tuesday night in Upper Lake.
“It was a complete team effort as we rotated a new group in every three minutes to give everyone quality playing time and keep our focus on playing the game the right way,” Upper Lake head coach Dani Paige Gudmundson said. “Despite the lopsided score, I was pleased with how we handled our side of the ball overall. For a first game, and with only a week of practice, we saw a lot of positive things.”
Junior Peregrina led the Wildcats with 16 points followed by Gage Schramm with 12 and Desmond Solomon with nine. Every player on the roster had at least one basket.
“This is my first time coaching this group, and I’m impressed with their depth, effort and potential,” Gudmundson said. “As an eighth-grade team, a big part of our season will be continuing to mature, compete with discipline, and grow together.”
Upper Lake hosts Point Arena on Thursday.
