Saints, Mustangs dominate All-League team

Eight Middletown High School players earn All-League honors

LAKE COUNTY >> Seven members of the North Coast Section Division 7-champion Middletown High School varsity football squad have been named to the All-North Central League I first team as selected by the league’s coaches.

An eighth Mustang received an honorable mention.

Undefeated league champion St. Helena (8-0) received both of the league’s MVP awards, senior quarterback Jhony Covarrubias on offense and senior lineman Ben Brakesman on defense.

Additionally, the first-place Saints landed eight players on the All-League first team while another received an honorable mention. Saints honored on the first team were seniors Dean Sommer, Eric Torres, Matt Larabee, Adam Herdell and Gianiuca Di Fede, junior Julian Earls, and sophomores Latif Basile and George Fillippini.

For runner-up Middletown (7-1), first-team honors were bestowed on seniors Blake Costlow, Trenton Griffith, Jon Hawkins and Hayden Xavier, junior Ryan Halverson and sophomores Tyler Galamay and John Finney.

Third-place Willits (6-2) had six players named to the first name along with one honorable mention. First-teamers were seniors Rickey Ramirez, Corey Rockey, Ryan Carter and Donald Glenn, junior Ricky Britton and sophomore Zain Marshall.

Three teams – Clear Lake, Kelseyville and Fort Bragg – tied for fourth place at 4-4. Each of those three received four first-team selections and one honorable mention.

For Clear Lake, first-team honors went to seniors Jesse Hayes, Colton Mendonca and Ryken Villanueva, and to junior Ayden Moreno.

For Kelseyville, first-team selections were bestowed on seniors Michael DeJohn, Adrian Garcia, Milez Giambra and Max Lee.

For Fort Bragg, first-team honors went to seniors Beau Hebden, Ross Knapp, Sawyer Schlafer and Xavier Mitchell.

Lower Lake (2-6), seventh in the league standings, had two first-teamers and one honorable mention. First-team honors went to seniors Ashton Hartmann and Noel Pereira.

Cloverdale (1-7) and Upper Lake (0-8) each had one first-team selection and one honorable mention.

For Cloverdale, junior Carson Brown earned first-team honors.

For Upper Lake, Gage Faalelea was honored on the first team.

Honorable mentions

All-League honorable mentions went to Lower Lake junior Kody Ranous, St. Helena senior Junior Ramirez, Cloverdale junior Jorge Guerrero, Upper Lake senior Blake Snead, Willits senior Porter Garman, Clear Lake senior Micah Meo, Kelseyville senior Roman Mathis, Middletown sophomore Jack Harper, and Fort Bragg senior Ash Hebden.
