KELSEYVILLE >> Despite a second-half rally that sent the game into overtime, the Kelseyville High School girls soccer team fell 3-2 in a double-overtime thriller to the Eureka Loggers on Wednesday night in the opening round of the North Coast Section Division 1 playoffs at Kelseyville.

The loss ends the most successful season in Kelseyville’s girls soccer history as the Knights, the No. 2 playoff seed, finish at 22-2. They had a 15-game winning streak snapped while losing to the seventh-seeded Loggers.

“It was a tough loss, but our girls left it all on the field tonight … blood, sweat and tears,” Kelseyville head coach Irma Rodrigurez said. “We are beyond proud of this team and everything they’ve accomplished. They fought with heart until the very last second.”

Eureka took a 2-0 lead into the second half before Kelseyville tied it on goals by Xiomara Arias and Banesa Munoz, forcing overtime. After a scoreless first overtime period, Eureka broke through early in the second extra period. Had the game extended beyond that it would have been decided by penalty kicks.

“This season was truly special,” Rodriguez said of Kelseyville’s 12-0 run through the North Central League I. “These girls made school history, played with passion, and grew not just as players but as teammates and family. We couldn’t be prouder of how far they’ve come and the legacy they’ve built for Kelseyville soccer.”
