Lower Lake falls to Westshore in semifinals of league playoffs

LAKEPORT >> In a game that went back and forth until the final minutes, the junior varsity Lower Lake Trojans fell 27-24 to the Westshore Cardinals in the semifinal round of the Mendo-Lake Empire Junior League Football playoffs on Saturday at Clear Lake High School in Lakeport.

LaDontea Sellers led Lower Lake (7-4) with 155 rushing yards and three of the team’s four touchdowns. Brian Patrick had the other rushing score. Quentynn Conner added 75 yards on the ground.

Patrick, Tucker Heywood and Fredrick Jeffries led the Trojans in tackles.

The 2025 season was a remarkable turnaround for the JV team, which finished 1-6-1 in 2024.

“Watching these boys grow from the start of the season to the final whistle has been nothing short of amazing,” Lower Lake coach Chris Jeffries said. “Their dedication, teamwork and love for the game shone brightest in that last game against Westshore. I’m so proud of the heart and effort they gave every single time they stepped on the field.”

Added Jeffries, “With strong leadership, determination and a season full of progress, the JV Trojans have set the bar higher for seasons to come.”

Westshore (10-1) advances to the championship game to play Middletown (11-0) on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in Cloverdale.
