LAKEPORT >> Pulling away in the fourth quarter, the Westshore Cardinals defeated the Lower Lake Trojans 18-0 during a pee wee-level game in the Mendo-Lake Empire Junior Football League on Saturday in Lakeport.

Both teams came into the contest undefeated. Westshore (5-0) held a 6-0 lead until scoring twice more down the stretch.

“It was a big defensive day again not allowing them to score,” Clear Lake head coach Vince Rave said. “Our boys rallied to the ball and kept them out of the end zone.”

Vince Rave Jr. rushed for 173 yards and three touchdowns while handing Lower Lake (3-1-1) its first loss of the season.

“A big part of our rushing success is our line,” Rave said. “They’ve been doing a great job blocking and opening holes, and our backs are blocking down the field.”

Rave registered eight solo tackles and six assists on defense while Mayson Williams added seven total tackles. Other leaders were Obie Knight, Hayes Eagle and Cesar Gonzales with four tackles apiece.

“Our boys were rallying to the ball making a lot of group tackles,” Rave said. “It was a great effort this weekend from the whole team playing all four quarters of football.”

Westshore and Napa (5-0), the only undefeated pee wee teams remaining atop the league standings, square off this Saturday in Napa at 3:30 p.m. Junior varsity action follows at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity game kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

“The team effort these boys give is relentless,” Rave said.
