Youth football team registers first victory of season

LOWER LAKE >> Behind 120 rushing yards and a touchdown from Kamron Richardson, the Lower Lake junior varsity football team beat the Kelseyville Chiefs 13-0 in Mendo-Lake Empire Junior Football League action Saturday in Lower Lake.
The Trojans improved to 1-1 on the season while Kelseyville fell to 0-2.
LaDontea Stellers added 54 rushing yards while Brian Patrick scored the Trojans’ other touchdown. D’Angelo Negrete added an extra point.
Fredrick Jeffries came up with one of the bigger defensive plays of the game for Lower Lake, stripping the ball from a Kelseyville player as teammate Patrick recovered the ball.
Judah O’Keefe anchored a strong effort by Lower Lake’s defensive line.
With Kelseyville driving late in the game, the Trojans’ Giovanni Steffen sealed the shutout victory with a game-ending tackle.
Lower Lake takes the weekend off before returning to action Sept. 6 in Willits. Kelseyville hosts Napa on Sept. 6.
