RED BLUFF >> The next stop for state champion Alexis Yanez is Des Moines, Iowa, host of the National Junior High Finals Rodeo on June 22-28.
Yanez, an eighth-grader at Mountain Vista Middle School in Kelseyville, dominated the field during the goat tying portion of the California Junior High School Rodeo Championships May 14-17 in Red Bluff.
Yanez punched her ticket to the state finals after winning the District 2 championship in March. She was one of 45 district placers – five from each of nine rodeo districts located around the state – competing in Red Bluff.
Her average time during her first two runs at Red Bluff led the field going into the top-15 short go on day three. Her final run in the short go earned her the 2025 state championship title. The second-, third- and fourth-place finishers also advance to the national finals next month in Iowa.
