CLOVERDALE >> With a chance to move up in the North Central League I softball standings, the Kelseyville Knights took a step back Tuesday, falling 8-3 to the Cloverdale Eagles at Cloverdale.

The win snapped a three-game Knights winning streak as they fell to 3-3 in the league standings and 3-7 overall. Cloverdale improved to 4-1 and 12-1.

“We had a rough outing today,” Kelseyville head coach Brittany Rumfelt said. “We were flat as a team, and you could feel it before the game. We beat ourselves by not taking care of the controllables.”

After winning pitcher Charlotte Burchett blanked the Knights in the top of the first, Cloverdale scored five times in the bottom of the first against losing pitcher Ashlyn Wurm. The Eagles had a 7-1 lead after two innings before the Cougars scored twice in the top of the third. Burchett and reliever Camryn Bird shut out the Knights the rest of the way.

Jordyn Wurm went 2-for-3 with a RBI and Kat Wheelan also went 2-for-3 for the Knights. Cali Schnabl (1-for-3, RBI), Morgan Rogers (1-for-3) and Kylee Denham (1-for-3) had the other Kelseyville hits.

Emerson Reasoner (2-for-3) doubled, tripled and drove in a run for Cloverdale. Bella Sanchez went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Burchett struck out five and walked two in her five innings of work. Wurm went the distance, striking out three and walking six.

Both teams are on the road Friday. Kelseyville visits Fort Bragg while Cloverdale travels to Lower Lake.
