WILLITS >> Kelseyville High School’s Maddy Borghesani, Riley Lopez and Olivia Raabe all won in straight sets during the Knights’ 4-1 Coastal Mountain Conference win over the Willits Wolverines on Friday in Willits.
“All three singles players won in convincing fashion and were never threatened,” Kelseyville head coach Andy Dobusch said.
Borghesani and Lopez both won 6-0, 6-0.
“Nice, straight-forward match (for Maddy),” Dobusch said. “Good rallies against an athletic opponent.”
Lopez’s victory in second singles was more of the same.
“Back in action after a week abroad, Riley didn’t miss a beat,” Dobusch aid. “I’m sure he lost a few points during the match, I just didn’t see them.”
Raabe won 6-1, 6-0 in third singles.
“Shoutout to Olivia Raabe for competing in her first singles match,” Dobusch said. “She served well and had several aces to add to her growing total.”
Olivia Bushey and Brooklyn Young provided the Knights with another win in first doubles, 6-3, 6-2.
“It’s fun to watch their level improve week to week,” Dobusch said. “They’re getting more consistent and confident.”
Lilly O’Bryan and Brooklyn Smith fell 6-4, 6-4 in second doubles.
“This is the first match for these two first-year players,” Dobusch said. “I was happy they got the chance to step up and play. They’re just learning the game and had a very competitive match. It’s great to see how far they’ve come and they’ll only get better with more experience.”
Kelseyville hosts Cloverdale on Thursday.
