Kelseyville opens league play with lopsided victory at Lower Lake

LOWER LAKE >> The Kelseyville Knights scored 15 times in the top of the first inning while beating the Lower Lake Trojans 25-0 in the North Central League I opener for both of these junior varsity baseball team Saturday in Lower Lake.

The game was stopped after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Jacob Amendola, Case Pivniska, Elijah Watkins, Jorge Gonzalez and Bryson Wood all reached base four times and scored four times for the Knights (hitting breakdowns were not available). Deake Lyndall reached base three times and scored three times.

Reese Johnson started on the mound for the Knights and worked three innings for the victory, allowing two hits. Lyndall completed the three-hit shutout.

“The 15 runs in the first inning got us off to a great start,” Kelseyville head coach Sean Navarro said. “We were able to hit the ball really well and be aggressive on the bases. Our defense was very solid today. Johnson and Lyndall pitched a great game for us, only giving up three hits combined.”

Kelseyville is 1-0 in league and 3-1 overall. The Knights hit the road Tuesday to play Middletown at 4 p.m.
