LLHS baseball opens with 8-7 loss

Blake Hill, Brody Shields finish with two hits apiece as Trojans fall to Warriors

CROCKETT >> Swett High School built an 8-0 lead before the Lower Lake Trojans made a game of it, scoring seven times in the top of the fifth inning in a season-opening 8-7 loss to the Warriors on Thursday in Crockett.

Swett scored once in the bottom of the first, four times in the second, twice in the third and once in the fourth to grab an 8-0 lead.

The Trojans finished with five hits, two each by Blake Hill (2-for-3, 2 RBIs) and Brody Shields (2-for-3, RBI).

Starting pitcher Luke Campbell took the loss, working the first two innings. He allowed no hits, five runs, only one which was earned, struck out five and walked seven. Shields worked the final four innings.

While the Warriors finished with only three hits, they made the most of the 10 walks they received from Lower Lake pitching as well as two Trojan errors.

It was the head coaching debut of Lower Lake’s Mike Huffman.

Lower Lake is coming off a 6-14 season (5-11 in league) in 2024.

The Trojans are scheduled to play in Maxwell on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
