ALBANY >> Kelseyville High School’s girls soccer season came to a close with an 8-0 loss to No. 2 seed St. Mary’s in the opening round of the North Coast Section Division 4 playoffs on Wednesday afternoon in Albany.

“Despite the scoreline, I couldn’t be prouder of the heat and determination our girls showed on the field,” Kelseyville head coach Irma Rodriguez said. “For the first 25 minutes of the match, the team held its own, matching St. Mary’s intensity and holding them scoreless. Our midfield and defense worked hard to keep their attack at bay.”

Added Rodriguez, “Unfortunately, St. Mary’s (13-4-1) eventually broke through, scoring four goals before halftime. The second half mirrored the first, with St. Mary’s continuing their offensive push.”

Kelseyville closes out the 2024-25 winter season at 7-9-4.

“A huge shoutout to our goalkeeper, Cassie Rodriguez, who had an outstanding performance,” Rodriguez said. “She made several impressive saves and kept fighting until the final whistle.

“While this wasn’t the result we hoped for, I’m incredibly proud of what we accomplished this season,” Rodriguez added. “These girls played with heart, passing and love for the game every step of the way. We’ve grown so much as a team, and I’m excited for what the future holds for the team.”

Kelseyville is moving back to fall soccer next season. Play begins in August.
