REDDING >> The Heat 16-and-under club volleyball squad placed fifth out of 22 teams Saturday during a North State Series tournament at Foothill High School in Redding.

The Heat won its first four matches, the first three in straight sets, before falling to Legacy 21-7, 21-10 in the second round of bracket play.

In pool action, the Heat defeated Adrenaline 21-11, 21-12, Bethal 21-8, 21-3, and Momentum 21-13, 24-22. The Heat rallied for a 17-21, 25-23, 15-11 victory over NSVA in the first round of bracket play.

“This was our biggest competition of the day, and the girls were feeling the energy,” Heat head coach Vanessa Davis said.

The team entered the Legacy match on some tired legs, according to Davis.

“After a long day of competition, the intensity of the day finally caught up with us,” Davis said. “I see a lot of potential in this young team. We are growing together and are able to maintain our composure and intensity.”

Outside hitter Emma Davis finished the tournament with 46 digs, 25 kills, 17 service points and nine aces. Other team leaders were setter Bridget Lisenbee with 45 assists, 31 service points, 21 digs, 17 aces and five kills; outside hitter Hailey Williams with 22 service points, 16 digs, six kills and four aces; opposite hitter Crystal Duvall with 15 kills; and libero Trinity Galvan with 35 digs, 14 service points and five aces.

The team returns to action March 9 at Red Bluff High School.
