FAIRFIELD >> Kathryn Wheelan’s goal off a corner kick delivered by Regina Rico staked Kelseyville to an early lead, but the Fairfield Falcons rallied for a 2-1 win in non-league girls soccer action Saturday in Fairfield.

Fairfield (4-5) tied the game before halftime.

“Coming into the second half, the Lady Knights were able to keep the game tied for a while, but Fairfield scored their second goal,” Kelseyville head coach Irma Rodriguez said.

Kelseyville (3-5) has struggled to put goals on the scoreboard this season, a trend that continues, according to Rodriguez.

“We just haven’t been able to execute on making goals,” Rodriguez said. “With Kelseyville High School not having a home field and us having to travel every week, two hours to each game, two days a week, I don’t know if this has had an effect on the girls’ play. We just can’t seem to get our game on until the second half.”

Added Rodriguez, “We’re also having some errors out there that are costly, and we just aren’t recuperating in time. Hopefully, with us having some home games on a field closer to home will help.”

Kelseyville visits Corning on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Knights open their North Central League I schedule Thursday in St. Helena.
