Muniz rushes for three touchdowns, Finney for two more in 39-0 win

LOWER LAKE >> Esteban Muniz rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns while John Finney contributed a team-best 154 yards and two more TDs Friday night as the Middletown High School junior varsity football team clinched a tie for the North Central League I championship with a 39-0 victory at Lower Lake.
Middletown improved to 7-0 in the league standings and 9-0 overall while Lower Lake fell to 0-7 in league play. The Mustangs can claim the outright league crown next Friday with a win at home against Upper Lake (4-3) or with a Kelseyville (6-1) loss to St. Helena (4-3).
Finney scored both of his touchdowns in the first quarter on runs of 9 and 20 yards as the Mustangs built a 13-0 lead. They put the game with a 20-point second quarter featuring scoring runs of 13, 34 and 3 yards by Muniz.
Willy Tadder added a 46-yard TD run in the third quarter.
Middletown finished with 349 yards of total offense, all rushing. The Mustangs didn’t attempt a single pass.
Middletown’s defense held Lower Lake to 69 yards of total offense, 42 passing.
Lower Lake closes out its season next Friday in Fort Bragg.
