Trojans close out 7-1 regular season with 33-0 win at Cloverdale, playoffs next

CLOVERDALE >> D’Angelo Negrete scored on a 70-yard run while Freddie Jeffries had a 50-yard touchdown run Saturday as the Lower Lake Trojans pee wee football team shut out Cloverdale 33-0 in Mendo-Lake Empire Junior Football League action at Cloverdale High School.
Lower Lake finishes the regular season 7-1 and returns to action next Saturday in Cloverdale against Willits (6-2) in the semifinal round of the league playoffs. Kickoff is 2:30 p.m. The winner advances to the championship game the following Saturday against the winner of the other semifinal between Westshore (8-0) and Fort Bragg (5-3).
Jeffries, the Lower Lake quarterback, also connected with Brantley Paminto on an 8-yard touchdown pass. Kameron Richardson added two other Lower Lake touchdowns, one on a 36-yard run and the other on a 60-yard punt return.
Maxxwell Wilkins had only one carry on the night but ran 36 yards for a touchdown. Brian Patrick added 35 rushing yards with two extra points, Erian Gonzalez had one carry for 31 yards, and Wyatt Hooten scored an extra point.
Jeffries and Vinnie Steffen each had three solo tackles, and Jeffries also had a sack.
“We were happy to get the ball in many hands and the kids took advantage of it,” Lower Lake head coach Daniel Hooten said.
Added Hooten, “We are looking and feeling good going into the playoffs. Our boys have produced the best stats in the league. We’ve allowed only two TDs and have scored 200 points on the season. These kids play great together and have worked their butts off for those stats. We are excited to take on Willits this Saturday.”
