UPPER LAKE >> The Middletown Mustangs pulled away with three second-half goals to shut out Upper Lake 4-0 in North Central League I boys soccer action Thursday afternoon in Upper Lake.
Middletown (3-0 league, 5-3 overall) scored the only goal it would need 15 minutes into the first half. The Mustangs broke it open in the second half with a three-goal flurry during a 10-minute stretch.
“It was a repeat of Tuesday’s game (5-0 loss to Fort Bragg) where we kept them to one (goal) for a while, then it all crumbled,” Upper Lake head coach Thomas Santana said. “We definitely had more attacks this game than against Fort Bragg. Jaden Nunez made some good attempts, but we just couldn’t find the find the back of the net.”
Kyler Brothers had 17 saves at keeper for Upper Lake.
“We are still trending upward, but we need to find a way to make goals and keep a consistent attack,” Santana said. “Mario Olvera also saved us a bunch of times on Middletown counterattacks.”
Middletown scoring was not reported.
Upper Lake plays at Willits on Tuesday while Middletown hosts Fort Bragg.
