ORLAND >> Hoping to beat Orland for a second time this season, the Kelseyville High School softball team instead found itself on the wrong end of an 8-2 non-league decision Friday in Orland.
Kelseyville (1-6) beat Orland 6-3 on March 12 in Kelseyville, its only win of the season to date.
“It’s hard losing to a team that you have beat earlier in the season, but we are in a stage of rebuilding this program,” Kelseyville head coach Brittany Rumfelt said. “In doing that you take a couple of steps back before moving forward into a place of consistent success. I am proud of how the team is persevering through the changes. Unfortunately, errors, walks and lack of hits hurt us.”
Among Kelseyville’s six hits, Ashlyn Wurm went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, her second of the season, losing pitcher Madison Byrne went 2-for-3, Josie Keithly went 1-for-3 with a RBI double, and Vanessa Reyes went 1-for-3.
“Ashlyn Wurm had a great day at the plate,” Rumfelt said. “Freshman Brooke Poff stepped up defensively in right field.”
Byrne pitched five innings, allowing six hits and six runs, striking out six and walking five.
Weather permitting, Kelseyville is scheduled to host Middletown on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
