Middletown drops non-league varsity baseball doubleheader to St. Bernard’s

MIDDLETOWN >> It was a double dose of 16-1 setbacks to the visiting St. Bernard’s Crusaders on Friday afternoon as the Middletown Mustangs dropped both ends of a non-league varsity baseball doubleheader at Wes Martin Field.
The first game went the full seven innings while the second game was called after five innings.
In the opener, starting pitcher Cody Perez worked five innings, allowing five runs while striking out five and walking three. He also knocked in the Mustangs’ lone run.
St. Bernard’s busted the game wide open with a four-run sixth inning and a seven-run seventh.
In game two, St. Bernard’s jumped out to a 10-0 lead, striking for six runs in the first inning against losing pitcher Landon Pisaro.
John Finney drove in Middletown’s lone run.
No other details were reported.
The Mustangs are 3-8-1 on the season. They resume their North Central League I schedule Tuesday at home against Upper Lake.
