UKIAH >> An understrength Kelseyville High School junior varsity girls basketball team lost only its second game of the season Thursday, dropping a 39-30 non-league decision to the Ukiah Wildcats in Ukiah.

“The girls played smart and played together, but with only seven girls this game, going against a team of 13, we definitely got tired,” Kelseyville head coach Liz Berry said.

Several players missed the game to attend a club volleyball tournament in Las Vegas, leaving Berry with little flexibility.

“We went into the game focused on improving some of the things we’ve been struggling with the last couple games,” Berry said.

Grace Hobbs led the Knights (18-2) with 13 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Aubree Sperber added nine points and five rebounds. Riley Hanson also pulled down seven rebounds.

“Ukiah was great competition for us, and everyone got to see a lot of time on the court,” Berry said.

The Wildcats are 16-3 on the season.

Kelseyville, the undefeated North Central League I leader, is home Friday against St. Helena.
