Lower Lake girls place fourth out of 23 teams at Malinda Ripley Invitational

ANTIOCH >> Lower Lake High School wrestlers Riley Givens and Greer Mayer won their weight classes while Mirabel Myer secured a third-place medal Saturday during the Malinda Ripley Invitational at Deer Valley High School in Antioch.,
Lower Lake placed fourth in the 23-team field while coming home with three individual misses as well as two near misses as both Sade Cook at 127 pounds and Lorena Inong at 117 pounds came in fourth.
Both Givens, the 108-pound champion, and Mayer the 112-pound winner, went 3-0 on the day with three pins. Myer’s third-place finish came in the 157-pound division.
“I’m super proud of the way they wrestled and conducted themselves at the tournament,” Lower Lake head coach Danny Cuellar said.
Finishing fourth and just missing out on a medal were Sade Cook at 127 pounds and Lorena Inong at 117 pounds.
Up next for Lower Lake’s girls wrestlers is the Goddess of the Vine Tournament on Saturday at Clayton Valley High School in Concord. Lower Lake’s complete squad returns to action Wednesday at home against St. Helena and Willits in a Coastal Mountain Conference tri-meet.
Lower Lake wrestling notes: Lower Lake’s complete squad beat Kelseyville 41-39 during a conference tri-meet last week in Kelseyville to retain The Shield, which goes to the winner in that head-to-head rivalry. Lower Lake has won it every year since it was first awarded in 2016. Clear Lake beat Lower Lake 42-36 in the other part of the tri-meet … Arturo Gudino went to the Midcals Classic in Gilory last weekend and placed in the top 12 of the 108-pound bracket.
