Clear Lake beats Lower Lake in three sets in varsity volleyball action<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

LAKEPORT >> Aniya Jauregui and Lindee Bingham combined for 13 aces on Thursday as the Clear Lake Cardinals snapped a three-match North Central League I losing streak with a 25-15, 25-15, 25-16 win over the Lower Lake Trojans in Lakeport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bingham also registered a team-best five kills as the Cardinals squared their league record at 3-3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe girls brought fantastic energy and focused on next-play mentality,\u201d Clear Lake head coach Izzy Short said. \u201cIt was a joy to watch the girls smile and play their game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emily Gersalia had eight assists for the Cardinals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTonight we played really flat, didn\u2019t have the energy to match Clear Lake, either the JV or the varsity,\u201d Lower Lake head coach Shannon Tubbs said. \u201cThere were a few players who played really well tonight led by Brooke Benson.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benson led the team with four kills and tied teammate Jamiya Lee-Ayers for the blocks lead, each with three. Lee-Ayers had a team-best six digs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tubbs also credited Izabela Hernandez with playing her best match of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe was in the right spots at the right times to make some really nice plays,\u201d Tubbs said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the Trojans are still winless in league play at 0-6, Tubbs said his players continue to work hard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis has been a roller coaster of a season and the girls have worked really hard with all the obstacles they\u2019ve had to deal with,\u201d Tubbs said. \u201cI\u2019m proud of them for their perseverance and flexibility through it all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clear Lake hosts Middletown (3-3) on Tuesday while Lower Lake returns home to face league-leading Cloverdale (6-1). Junior varsity action at both locations begins at 5 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clear Lake won the JV match 25-11, 25-11 behind four aces, four digs and two kills from Ashlynn Cruz, five kills and three aces from Avery Fiske, four kills from Kiara Hopkins, and six digs from Aliyah Valadez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe girls did a great job keeping the pressure on their opponents and kept being aggressive,\u201d Short said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
