{"id":750,"date":"2024-09-06T15:24:13","date_gmt":"2024-09-06T15:24:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=750"},"modified":"2024-09-06T15:24:13","modified_gmt":"2024-09-06T15:24:13","slug":"ul-volleyball-teams-just-miss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=750","title":{"rendered":"UL volleyball teams just miss"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Eagles rally past Cougars in JV, varsity action<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UPPER LAKE &gt;&gt; Upper Lake High School\u2019s volleyball teams pushed the Cloverdale Eagles to the limit on Thursday night before dropping their respective North Central League I openers at Upper Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In varsity action, Cloverdale rallied for a 25-11, 20-25, 19-25, 25-22, 15-6 win. Earlier during the JV match, the Eagles prevailed 23-25, 25-22, 15-3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Varsity match<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aimee Schaefers recorded 11 kills, 11 blocks and four aces to help power the Cougars (0-1 league, 3-4 overall) while teammates Alyssa John (22 digs, 6 kills), Hope Marcks (17 assists, 14 digs) and Alyson Gomez (20 digs) turned in solid efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was a hard-fought game for both teams,\u201d Upper Lake head coach Dani Paige Gudmundson said of the best-of-five match. \u201cAlthough it took us the first set to find our rhythm, we never backed down once we did. We made some adjustments and provided great coverage. Every point was hard-earned, and I couldn\u2019t be prouder of my team\u2019s effort.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Added Gudmundson, \u201cWhile it\u2019s never easy to lose, I am far from disappointed. I am very proud of our team and eagerly look forward to witnessing their growth throughout the rest of the season.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>JV match<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kenzie Foley had three digs and two aces, Addison Vipond added three aces and one dig, and Abigail Suzor had two blocks and one ace for the Upper Lake JVs against Cloverdale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe first set went point for point for a while,\u201d Upper Lake head coach Fawn Rave said. \u201cKenzie Foley had a seven-serve run. The girls were playing well and had some good rallies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe second set took us a minute to get in the groove,\u201d Rave added. \u201cWe had some great hustle from Riley Jones and Kenzie Foley, and they had some great saves. Addison Vipond had a run of five serves. We just couldn\u2019t keep the lead.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the decisive third set, the Cougars struggled with serve receive and couldn\u2019t recover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe girls got frustrated and we couldn\u2019t get out of it,\u201d Rave said. \u201cOverall, all the girls did well. They had some good plays. We\u2019ve got some things to work on.\u201d\\<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upper Lake\u2019s teams are home twice next week. They host Fort Bragg on Tuesday and Clear Lake on Thursday.
