{"id":7270,"date":"2026-09-28T00:46:25","date_gmt":"2026-09-28T00:46:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=7270"},"modified":"2026-09-28T00:46:25","modified_gmt":"2026-09-28T00:46:25","slug":"mtown-volleyball-places-second-at-tourney","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=7270","title":{"rendered":"M&#8217;town volleyball places second at tourney"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Mustangs fall to West Campus of Sacramento in championship game<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CARMICHAEL &gt;&gt; Middletown High School\u2019s varsity volleyball team won four of six matches on Saturday while placing second in the small school varsity division of the Carmichael Invitational Volleyball Tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown\u2019s only two losses, one in pool play and the other in tournament final, came to the same school, West Campus High School out of Sacramento.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe arrived at sunrise and when we left the gym, the sun had just set and there was a great sunset,\u201d Middletown head coach Erika Galvan said. \u201cThe girls played hard all day. We worked on implementing a secondary defense in the morning that worked out pretty well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown defeated Wheatland 21-25, 25-18, 15-5 to open pool play before falling to West Campus 25-15, 25-18. The Mustangs beat East Union 26-24, 25-16 in their final pool match. Advancing to bracket play, Middletown defeated Truckee 25-15, 17-25, 15-11 and Woodland Christian 25-19, 18-25, 15-13 before losing to West Campus 25-21, 25-17. In the championship match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mustangs finished the tournament with 293 digs, 120 kills, 114 assists, 42 aces and 15 blocks. The team received contributions from all over the court, according to Galban.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Jordyn Harbison led in serve receptions (88) and digs (72) while also recording 23 service points, 10 assists and one kill. \u201cJordyn never stopped hustling, communicating and keeping the team glued together all day,\u201d Galvan said.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Emma Davis finished with team bests in kills (39) and aces (18) to go along with 32 points, 58 digs and two assists. \u201cShe had strong play all around, all day long,\u201d Galvan said. \u201cShe is a strong threat from anywhere on the court.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Brenna Goodloe finished with 32 kills and 10 blocks. \u201cThis was her strongest performance yet. She has been getting stronger the past few weeks, and she really showed out all day.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Bridget Lisenbee recorded a team-best 56 assists to go along with 35 points, 22 digs and three aces. \u201cShe was hustling for the second ball all day,\u201d Galvan said. \u201cShe had some great saves on the second ball that her teammates were able to get a good kill off of. In our championship game against West Campus, she went on a seven-point serving streak which kept our momentum going.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Izzi Hoogendoorn added 26 kills, 31 digs and one block. \u201cShe had some strong leg cramps but kept hustling after everything,\u201d Galvan said.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Trinity Galvan added 42 digs, 39 assists, 24 points, seven aces and three kills. \u201cA few teams really targeted our setters in the back row, and Trinity was all over the place digging up balls.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Grace Williams contributed 17 points, 12 kills, 12 digs, five aces and four assists. \u201cShe surprised us all with some power hits and power tips,\u201d Galvan said.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Hannah Tribby notched 15 digs, 11 kills, three assists and one block. \u201cShe had to switch from opposite to middle in our last match,\u201d Galvan said. \u201cShe jumped right in there and was strong for us. She had some great swings.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Chloe Pulido finished with 22 digs, 15 points, four aces and one kill. \u201cShe also had to transition in our last game to play front row as well as defensive specialist. She did a very good job. Her serves are also key.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Hailey Williams had 13 digs and six kills. \u201cShe had a beautiful single block attempt that the other team barely grabbed up,\u201d Galvan said.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSami Maccario was our utility player for the day,\u201d Galvan said. \u201cShe went in as a defensive specialist, middle and opposite hitter throughout the day. Sami is very versatile.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Added Galvan, \u201cEveryone we played today had great defense,\u201d Galvan said. \u201cThey were digging up some incredible hits off of us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown, now 15-11 on the season, faces a big North Central League I South match on Tuesday when it visits Cloverdale. Both teams are 2-0 in the South standings.
