{"id":7095,"date":"2026-09-11T18:05:04","date_gmt":"2026-09-11T18:05:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=7095"},"modified":"2026-09-11T18:05:04","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T18:05:04","slug":"knights-end-long-layoff-with-straight-set-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=7095","title":{"rendered":"Knights end long layoff with straight-set win"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Kelseyville&#8217;s McCallister records 299th career win at home against Middletown<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KELSEYVILLE &gt;&gt; The Kelseyville Knights ended a 20-day layoff with a 25-21, 25-17, 25-17 home win over the Middletown Mustangs in North Central League I varsity volleyball interlock play Thursday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was the 299<sup>th<\/sup> career win for head coach Donelle McCallister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelseyville (7-0) hadn\u2019t taken the court in an official capacity since winning the Upper Lake Tournament on Aug. 21. Understandably, the Knights, who began a new school year Tuesday, were a bit rusty while taking on the Mustangs (6-6).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe first week back to school is having an effect on the team \u2026 they are physically tired,\u201d McCallister said. \u201cBut the team still came out and played well, hitting the floor and playing scrappy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Freshman Cassidy Hanson led the Knights with 12 kills while Olivia Bushey added 10 more and Jordyn Wurm seven. Other leaders were Madison Byrne with 21 digs and Riley Hanson, who missed a couple of days prior to the match because of illness, with 28 assists, 15 digs and three aces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe missed too many serve and need to focus on serving efficiency and covering some weak areas on the court,\u201d McCallister said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emma Davis led the Mustangs with seven kills while also recording 11 digs, one block and one ace. Jordyn Harbison led the team with 18 digs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cKelseyville kept digging up every ball,\u201d Middletown head coach Erika Galvan said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelseyville also won the junior varsity match, 25-10, 25-5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the Knights, Kaia Bohan had a team-best 18 assists, Mali Rico added 13 assists, Allison Leary recorded six aces and Olivia Arredondo four aces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carlee Williams\u2019 seven digs and three kills led the Mustangs while Bellaluna Loyola had three assists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have established a new rotation and the girls adjusted very well to it,\u201d Galvan said. \u201cWe need to keep working on serve receive. We had some good rallies tonight. Kelseyville has a very solid and strong JV team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>St. Helena\u2019s varsity team travels to St. Helena for a tournament Saturday.
