{"id":6985,"date":"2026-08-29T17:22:25","date_gmt":"2026-08-29T17:22:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=6985"},"modified":"2026-08-29T17:22:25","modified_gmt":"2026-08-29T17:22:25","slug":"kelseyville-jvs-quarterback-season-opener","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=6985","title":{"rendered":"Kelseyville JVs quarterback, season opener"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Knights drop 9-0 road decision to Justin-Siena to open 2026 schedule<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NAPA >> Turnovers didn\u2019t do the Kelseyville High School junior varsity football team any favors in a season-opening 9-0 loss to the Justin-Siena Braves on Friday night in Napa where the Knights also lost starting quarterback Brayden Ponce to an injury in the first half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTurnovers killed us,\u201d Kelseyville head coach Jeremy Linnell said. \u201cWe lost our QB in the first quarter and Jeff Cline did a great job stepping up at quarterback.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the Knights (0-1) were able to force several turnovers \u2013 interceptions by Zayden Merrill, George cline and Fabian Flores and a forced fumble by Maverick DeSimmone \u2013 the Kelseyville offense couldn\u2019t take advantage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lost fumbles short-circuited Kelseyville drives as the Braves (1-0) grabbed a 9-0 halftime lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI thought Pops Pasalo and Fabian Flores did a great job running the ball for us,\u201d Linnell said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Defensive coordinator Shane Carl praised the play of Flores, Geore Cline and Fernando Calvillo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kelseyville JVs are off next week and return to action Friday, Sept. 11 in Paradise (the varsity plays Stuart Hall at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco on Saturday, Sept. 12.
