{"id":6943,"date":"2026-08-25T00:53:03","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T00:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=6943"},"modified":"2026-08-25T00:53:03","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T00:53:03","slug":"northshore-varsity-coach-points-to-positives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=6943","title":{"rendered":"Northshore varsity coach points to positives"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Cougars struggle in season-opening 37-0 loss to Sonoma Dragons<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UPPER LAKE &gt;&gt; Even in a season-opening 37-0 loss to the Sonoma Dragons on Saturday, Northshore varsity football coach Frank Gudmundson said there were a handful of positives for his Cougars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe team struggled in the first half but was able to put together some offense in the second half,\u201d Gudmundson said. \u201cThis was their first contact due to a lack of attendance in the season-opening scrimmage in Willits.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the bright spots in the defeat were quarterback Greyson Pena\u2019s 60 all-purpose yards and the play on defense of outside linebackers Pena and Oscar Vasquez, who led the team in tackles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team experienced a bit of adversity when starting linebacker and center Colton Murray left the game with an injury and was unable to return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll the players played hard and performed to the best of their ability,\u201d Gudmundson said. \u201cWe have a bye week coming and we will use that to make some player adjustments.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a bye week this coming Saturday, all the league\u2019s teams are off Sept. 25 because of the Labor Day holiday weekend.
