{"id":6927,"date":"2026-08-23T17:35:33","date_gmt":"2026-08-23T17:35:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=6927"},"modified":"2026-08-23T17:35:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-23T17:35:33","slug":"arcata-sends-kelseyville-to-first-loss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=6927","title":{"rendered":"Arcata sends Kelseyville to first loss"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Tigers shut out Knights 3-0 in non-league action; both teams now 2-1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KELSEYVILLE &gt;&gt; Arcata handed Kelseyville its first loss of the season, 3-0, in non-league boys soccer action Saturday at Kelseyville High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy team was timid and scared at the beginning,\u201d Kelseyville head coach Kc White said as the Knights (2-1) failed to reach the scoreboard for the first time this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe weren\u2019t aggressive to the ball, we were making silly mistakes, our touch was inconsistent, and we weren\u2019t in sync with our ball pressure at all,\u201d White added. \u201cSome of that improved in the second half, but that was a rough first half to watch.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelseyville trailed 2-0 at halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Knights held the Tigers (2-1) scoreless until the 25<sup>th<\/sup> minute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA miscue in passing on the back line led to a one on one with our keeper and good teams don\u2019t miss chances like that,\u201d White said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelseyville was called a handball in the box late in the first half, setting up Arcata\u2019s second goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy player was adamant that it wasn\u2019t a handball,\u201d White said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arcata scored in the opening minutes of the second half to go up 3-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA failed clearance on a cross,\u201d White said. \u201cThose things happen, but we just had to live with it, unfortunately. We played them pretty evenly from that point on, which I\u2019m happy about.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arcata, a section runner-up a year ago, provided the Knights with the type of quality competition White was looking for, according to the Kelseyville coach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI expected a really tough game today, and I don\u2019t mind losing to that kind of team,\u201d White said. \u201cArcata is really good. I\u2019m happy we continued to work hard despite being behind. That kind of effort will benefit us moving forward this season.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>White praised the strong play of Kelseyville keeper Cesar Silva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is his first year on my team, only a sophomore, so I\u2019m happy to watch him develop,\u201d White said. \u201cHe had a great game. He came out when he was supposed to and had some good saves. He wasn\u2019t tested much in the first two games, but it\u2019s important for him to have games like this too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelseyville hits the road Tuesday to play Middletown (1-0-2) at 4:30 p.m. The game is part of pool play in the Tyler Duncan Memorial Tournament sponsored by Upper Lake.
