KELSEYVILLE >> Jair Inostroza Carrillo scored three times and assisted on another of Kelseyville\u2019s goals as the Knights shut out the Upper Lake Cougars 7-0 in non-league boys soccer action Thursday in Kelseyville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joey Watson added two goals while Omar Mercado Marquez and Anthony Arias also scored for the Knights (2-0).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe first 15 minutes were rough for us,\u201d Kelseyville head coach Kc White said. \u201cI think we had some selfish play happening, but we got a goal from Jair Inostroza Carrillo on an assist from Omar Mercado Marquez before the hydration break that settled us down, then we went to work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mercado Marquez\u2019s goal off a corner kick from Inostroza Carrillo made it 2-0 in the 27th<\/sup> minute, and Watson\u2019s first goal of the game and first of his career boosted Kelseyville\u2019s lead to 3-0 in the 30th<\/sup> minute. Mercado Marquez assisted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Knights added one more goal to their lead before halftime as Inostroza Carrillo scored on a through ball from Julio Lopez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelseyville padded its lead on second-half goals from freshman Anthony Arias (first of his career), Inostroza Carrillo, who completed his hat trick in the 51st<\/sup> minute, and a header by Watson, assisted by Adrian Carrillo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOverall, I was pleased with our effort after the hydration break,\u201d White said. \u201cWhen I started putting subs in, I felt like the dropoff from starter to reserve wasn\u2019t as severe as it has been for my teams in the past, which I am very happy about. We managed to score three times in the second half with a mixture of starters\/reserves on the field, and we managed to keep a good Upper Lake squad off the board. I feel like this Upper Lake squad is improved from last year. They have some new pieces that work really well, and I saw some really good passing that\u2019s only going to get better as they get more experience together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Added White, \u201cGerardo Garcia continues to anchor our back line for his senior campaign, and sometimes I just ask myself, \u2018Where would I be without G on my team?\u2019 He is a second coach on the field. He continues to be brilliant on defense for us as evidenced by our allowing just one shot on goal in two games. I\u2019m going to enjoy this final season with him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelseyville hosts Arcata on Saturday at 11:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis will be a big step up in competition for us,\u201d White said. \u201cArcata was the runner-up in NCS Division 1 last season. They had a lot of talent graduate, just like us, but I expect one of our toughest tests of the year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clear Lake 4, Middletown 4 (tie)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Lakeport, the Clear Lake Cardinals and Middletown Mustangs left it all out on the field, battling to a 4-4 non-league tie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat a battle in Lakeport!\u201d Middletown head coach Katie Robinson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Xavier Yebra scored three goals for the Mustangs (1-0-1), who trailed 2-1 at halftime. Wyatt Davis scored early in the second half to tie it at 2-2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBoth teams continued to attack, defend and push the pace,\u201d Robinson said. \u201cIt was back and forth the whole game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Levi Ewing scored two goals for Clear Lake (0-1-1) and assisted on another. Dominic Cervantes and Brayden Ruzicka also scored for the Cardinals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was a great game filled with great effort from both teams,\u201d Robinson said. \u201cNeither side was willing to give up ground. In the end, we just couldn\u2019t quite pull ahead. We\u2019ll take the lessons from this one, keep working, and look forward to meeting up with Clear Lake again.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
