{"id":6680,"date":"2026-05-17T17:31:33","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T17:31:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=6680"},"modified":"2026-05-17T17:31:33","modified_gmt":"2026-05-17T17:31:33","slug":"middletown-wins-championship-in-shootout","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=6680","title":{"rendered":"Middletown wins championship in shootout"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Broncos edge Obsidian or LCJHAL title; Mountain Vista takes third<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MIDDLETOWN &gt;&gt; Xavier Yebra, Eli Pulido and Isaac Delgado all scored during the penalty-kick shootout, lifting the Middletown Broncos to a 3-2 victory the Obsidian Bears in the championship game of the Lake County Junior High Athletic League postseason tournament Saturday in Middletown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The game matched the top two seeds \u2013 No. 1 Middletown against No. 2 Obsidian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAn amazing, intense game as always with Obsidian,\u201d Middletown head coach Ernest Pulido said. \u201cHats of to coach Andres (Hernandez of Obsidian) and his team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obsidian took a 1-0 lead into halftime and the score remained unchanged until Middletown\u2019s Eli Pulido sent a through ball to striker Yebra for a game-tying goal. Tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, the teams played two 10-minute overtime periods, each scoring a goal, to force a penalty-kick shootout, which the Broncos went on to win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andres Yebra scored in overtime for Middletown while Marco Soto and Adrian Perez scored Obsidian\u2019s goals in regulation and overtime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown\u2019s Pulido and Obsidian\u2019s Benji Osorio had assists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat a way to end an amazing season,\u201d Pulido said. \u201cThis teams set a goal at the beginning of the year to not just win it all, but to do it on our homefield. Today it all fell into place. The team kept fighting and never gave up.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat a final,\u201d Obsidian head coach Andres Hernandez said. \u201cTwo full-time halve to extra time to penalties. Words cannot explain how proud I am of these kids. They ae truly student-athletes. Unfortunately, it didn\u2019t go our way, but it was one for the books.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mountain Vista 7, Terrace 3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Middletown, hat trick by Hiliana Rico and Bob White powered the third-seeded Mountain Vista Lancers to a big win over the Terrace Vikings in the third-place game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mountain Vista led 2-0 at the half and 5-0 in the second half before Terrace reached the scoreboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBob and Hili played their butts off,\u201d Kelseyville head coach Oscar Lopez said. \u201cThey accounted for nearly every goal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aaliyah Macias had the other Mountain Vista goal.
