{"id":6464,"date":"2026-04-28T18:36:27","date_gmt":"2026-04-28T18:36:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=6464"},"modified":"2026-04-28T18:36:27","modified_gmt":"2026-04-28T18:36:27","slug":"cards-witness-tape-measure-shot-in-11-4-loss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=6464","title":{"rendered":"Cards witness tape-measure shot in 11-4 loss"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Sonoma Valley rallies from early 4-1 deficit to beat Clear Lake in non-league action<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SONOMA &gt;&gt; As far as Clear Lake High School softball head coach Scott Schaefers knows, the three-run homer hit by Sonoma Valley\u2019s Deliliah Olivier in the bottom of the third inning is still up in the air, perhaps in orbit by now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Olivier went 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs as the Sonoma Valley Dragons rallied from a 4-1 deficit to beat Clear Lake 11-4 in non-league softball action Monday afternoon in Sonoma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMoonshot,\u201d Schaefers said of the ball Olivier hit that tied the game 4-4 in the bottom of the third inning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trailing 1-0, Clear Lake (12-6) jumped ahead with four runs in the top of the third, a rally fueled by walks. Olivier tied it with one swing of the bat in the bottom half, a shot that Schaefers said cleared the top of the fence \u201cby 30 feet\u201d if not more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was gone the moment it left the bat,\u201d Schaefers said. \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever seen one hit like that before.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sonoma Valley, taking advantage of many of the seven walks issued by losing pitcher Atiana Patino, surged ahead to stay with a five-run bottom of the fourth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had a lot of walks and four hit batters,\u201d Schaefers said of Patino\u2019s tough day throwing the ball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One bright spot was the play of Clear Lake\u2019s defense, which didn\u2019t commit an error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe defense played well,\u201d Schaefers said. \u201cWe really played decent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cardinals finished with five hits, two of them by freshman Sophia Gonzales. Patino, Amelie Davis and Cali Albaum had the others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe girls hit the ball hard, but they just found the gloves of the Sonoma players,\u201d Schaefers said. \u201cTip your hats to them for playing so well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clear Lake jumps back into its North Central League I schedule with back-to-back home games Wednesday and Thursday at 4 p.m. On Wednesday, the Cardinals host Fort Bragg.
