Mountain Vista edges Lucerne 3-1 in pitcher’s duel; M’town rolls past Upper Lake 11-0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

LUCERNE >> Mountain Vista pushed across two runs in the top of the sixth inning to beat Lucerne 3-1 in middle school softball action Wednesday afternoon in Lucerne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis was the best and most fun game of the year so far,\u201d Mountain Vista head coach David Kennedy said. \u201cIt was a great pitcher\u2019s duel, and it was great see our players battle. We came up with some huge and timely hits, and our defense got us out of some jams.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aliana Gomez doubled to right-center field in the top of the sixth to drive home what proved to be the winning run. She later scored on a two-out error. Lucerne (1-3 league, 3-3 overall loaded the bases in the bottom half before grounding out to end the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kyleigh Drinnon (1-for-3) knocked in Lucerne\u2019s only run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaitlyn Tarin went 2-for-3 with a double for Mountain Vista (3-0, 5-5) while Gomez (1-for-3) and Aubrey Mullen (1-for-3) added doubles. Nevaeh Davis went 1-for-3 with a RBI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maylee Antoni earned the win in relief. She didn\u2019t allow a hit in her two innings of work, striking out two and walking three. Angelina Gozony pitched all six innings for Lucerne, striking out eight and walking one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While there weren\u2019t many offensive highlights for Lucerne, head coach Fred Miller said the play of first baseman Ally Abreu definitely stood out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAlly Abreu\u2019s first time starting at first base and she contributed to eight of the 10 outs that weren\u2019t strikeouts,\u201d Miller said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mountain Vista is right back at it Thursday with a home game against Upper Lake in Kelseyville at 4:30 p.m. Lucerne hosts Terrace School on Monday at 4:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Middletown 11, Upper Lake 0 (4 inn.)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Middletown, Peyton Beehler tossed a three-hitter, striking out seven and walking one, as the Middletown Broncos shut out the Upper Lake Wildcats in a four-inning game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaelani Becerril went 2-for-2 and drove in three runs for the Broncos, now 4-0 in league play and 6-1 overall. Beehler (2-for-2), Stella Brand (2-for-2) and Heather Warren (1-for-1, double) drove in two runs apiece. Sophie Stetson (2-for-2, double) also had a RBI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Middletown hits the road Monday to play Mountain Vista in Kelseyville at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are undefeated in league play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
