She walked only one. Gozony also helped out at the plate, going 2-for-3 and scoring twice. Monique Gozony went 1-for-3 with a three-run double and four RBIs over, her bases-clearing hit giving Lucerne a 6-2 lead in the second inning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sophie Basurto and Chevelle Sprague each scored twice for the Eagles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI want to give a shoutout to my sixth-grader, second baseman Monique Gozony,\u201d Lucerne head coach Fred Miller said. \u201cI moved her down in the batting order because she wasn\u2019t connecting well, but with the bases loaded and two outs in the second inning she had the best hit of the game, a double to center field to bring in three runs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upper Lake statistics were not reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lucerne returns to action Wednesday with a road game against Obsidian at 4:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other middle school league openers Monday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mountain Vista 10, Terrace 1 (5 inn.)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Kelseyville, Kaitlyn Tarin went 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs while Cassie Keyes went 2-for-2 with a RBI as the Mountain Vista Lancer beat the Terrace Vikings in five innings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was the league opener for both teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had a great pitching effort b y Nevaeh Davis today,\u201d Mountain Vista head coach David Kennedy said. \u201cShe got ahead with a lot of first-pitch strikes and seemed to get stronger as the game went on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Davis allowed just one hit while striking out 10 and walking four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aubrey Mullin went 1-for-3 with a double and RBI for Mountain Vista (1-0, 3-5) while Kaelyn Leboy went 1-for-2 with a RBI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Terrace statistics were not reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mountain Vista hits the road Wednesday to play Upper Lake at 4:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Middletown 8, Obsidian 5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Middletown, winning pitcher Avery Zolensky worked 4 1\/3 innings and helped her own cause by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs as the Middletown Broncos beat the Obsidian Bears in the league opener for both teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heather Warren went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs for the Broncos while Mia Martin went 1-for-3 with a RBI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obsidian statistics were not reported.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Middle school softball teams open league play with home victories Lake County Sports on Facebook LUCERNE &gt;&gt; Off to their best start in years, the Lucerne Eagles improved to 3-0 in middle school softball action by beating Upper Lake 10-3 in the league opener for both teams Monday afternoon in Lucerne.
