Wood on Thursday in Vacaville.

“The match was interesting to say the least,” Kelseyville head coach Kc White said. “There was a lot going on on the other side of the net. They were out of rotation quite a bit and they were frustrated. We did a good job of keeping our focus and playing our game.”

Andon Beall’s 14 kills, 14 digs and four blocks fueled the Knights (7-9) as did 21 assists, seven kills, seven digs and two aces from Diego Rico and 21 digs from George Cline.

“The defense was pretty good most of the game, but we struggled a lot with their tipping,” White said. “This is a good match to watch back and point out everything we need to fix. Other than that, we didn’t let much hit the floor tonight. We were down 21-24 in the third set and Diego Rico got up to the service line and got us level. We had a chance to win the set but couldn’t get the serve in. To my team’s credit, we bounced back from that disappointing ending and took care of business. When push came to shove, we buckled down and finished it with solid serving and timely hitting.”

Added White, “Diego Rico had his best hitting day of the season and got me fired up. He played really well today. Sebastian Cacho is our most consistent server. His serve is nothing special, but he gets it in almost every time, which is more than half the battle. George Cline was doing his job and the job of others as well tonight. He has grown so much since the beginning of the season. I’m glad I get to coach him for three more years after this.”

Diego Serrato finished with five kills, Julio Lopez with nine assists, two kills and two digs, and Cacho added six digs and three aces.

“I’m proud that we stayed together as a team through a lot of things on the other side of the net that we couldn’t control,” White said. “That builds character and the family dynamic that I want out of all of my teams.”

Kelseyville’s players will be watching from the stands Friday when the team takes in a college match between No. 1-ranked UCLA and Stanford in Palo Alto.
