{"id":5948,"date":"2026-03-18T18:42:05","date_gmt":"2026-03-18T18:42:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=5948"},"modified":"2026-03-18T18:42:05","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T18:42:05","slug":"middletown-wins-first-game-kelseyville-falls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=5948","title":{"rendered":"Middletown wins first game, Kelseyville falls"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Madrid pitches Mustangs to first softball win; Knights 10-runned on road by McKinleyville<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MIDDLETOWN &gt;&gt; Taluelah Madrid pitched a complete game, striking out five and walking only three as the Middletown High School softball team notched its first win of the season, beating Justin-Siena 5-3 in non-league action Tuesday afternoon at Middletown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown (1-1) rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to erase a Braves lead, that after Justin-Siena scored twice in the top of the inning to push in front 3-2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ally Cherry went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to spark Middletown\u2019s offense. She also scored twice. Ash Thompson went 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored while Bella Alcantar went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Lilli Reyes (1-for-3) also knocked in a run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGood team effort along with a nice pitching performance,\u201d Middletown head coach Bob Gunion said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown hosts St. Bernard for a non-league doubleheader Friday beginning at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other non-league softball action Tuesday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>McKinleyville 14, Kelseyville 4 (6 inn.)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At McKinleyville, the Kelseyville Knights were as close as 6-4 after rallying from an early 6-0 deficit, but the McKinleyville Panthers went on to 10-run the Knights in six innings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelseyville (1-4) scored three times in the top of the fourth to close to 6-4, but McKinleyville (4-1) pulled away with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, two in the fifth and two in the sixth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAter a 3 \u00bd-hour drive and four players getting sick, we started off sluggish,\u201d Kelseyville head coach Brittany Rumfelt said. \u201cThey (Panthers) scored five in the bottom of the first, which didn\u2019t help the situation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Added Rumelft, \u201cIn the fourth, we had a momentum shift, scoring three, and we were back in the game. Unfortunately, walks hurt us. It is early on and we are making progress every game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Losing pitcher Madi Byrne pitched a complete game, striking out one and walking nine. She also went 2-for-3 with two doubles.
