{"id":5900,"date":"2026-03-14T17:34:43","date_gmt":"2026-03-14T17:34:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=5900"},"modified":"2026-03-14T17:34:43","modified_gmt":"2026-03-14T17:34:43","slug":"cougars-bats-stay-hot-in-25-15-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=5900","title":{"rendered":"Cougars&#8217; bats stay hot in 25-15 win"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Trojans beat St. Bernard 11-3 before falling 21-0 to McKinleyville<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UPPER LAKE &gt;&gt; Upper Lake High School\u2019s softball team scored 25 runs for the second game in a row, this time in a 25-15 five-inning victory over Esparto on Friday afternoon in Upper Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur batters showed their strength at the plate and had a lot of fun today,\u201d Upper Lake head coach Janice Klier said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cougars (3-1) pounded out 14 hits, led by Addison Vipond (3-or-4, double, 4 RBIs), Alyna Solorio (3-for-4, double, 3 RBIs) and Rilee Sperber 3-for-4, 2 RBIs, five runs). Other leaders were Jordyn Parker (2-for-3, four runs), Aubree Sperber (2-for-2) and Ava Witter (2-for-4, triple, 4 RBIs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Witter\u2019s three-run triple in the bottom of the first inning set the tone for Upper Lake\u2019s offense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kylee Solorio pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are all so proud of Kylee pitching her first full game of her high school career,\u201d Klier said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cougars play Tuesday in South Fork at 4 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other non-league softball action Friday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lower Lake 11, St. Bernard 3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Eureka, in the first of two road games for the Lower Lake Trojans on Friday, they beat the St. Bernard Crusaders, scoring four times in the second inning and four times in the fourth to build an 8-0 lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Winning pitcher Crystal Pepper worked all seven innings, scattering seven hits and allowing three earned runs. She struck out eight and walked four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jamiya Lee-Ayers went 2-for-3 with a double and knocked in two runs to spark Lower Lake\u2019s offense while Heidi Ortega went 2-for-4.
