Kelseyville improves to 2-0 in conference standings, Middletown opens season with victory<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

KELSEYVILLE >> Kelseyville improved to 2-0 in the Coastal Mountain Conference North standings with a 5-0 victory over the visiting Fort Bragg Timberwolves on Friday at the Gard Street courts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Timberwolves brought only three singles players, forfeiting both doubles matches to the Knights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnother program in the building phase,\u201d Kelseyville head coach Andy Dobusch said. \u201cFort Bragg was only able to bring three players, all first-time players, all freshmen. It\u2019s good for the future, not for today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelseyville won all three singles matches in straight sets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maddy Boghesani defeated Gavin Wahl 6-0, 6-1 in first singles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGreat day for Maddy\u2019s serve,\u201d Dobusch said. \u201cI wish I would have counted the number aces. It was impressive.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In second singles, Olivia Bushey beat Theodore Gebheim 6-0, 6-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAlso a strong serving day and aggressive groundstrokes,\u201d Dobusch said. \u201cLots of winners.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Olivia Raabe completed the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Zo Carb in third singles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe came out swinging in her first action of the season,\u201d Dobusch said of Raabe. \u201cAnd par for the day, her serve was on fire.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an exhibition singles match, Brooklyn Young defeated Grebheim 3-0 and Wahl 3-0 for a 6-0 victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis was the first singles action for Brooklyn and she was great; consistent, and yes, she too had a strong day serving,\u201d Dobusch said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Added Dobusch, \u201cThey served a lot of balls over the past week. It was nice to see the payoff.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelseyville has a conference bye Tuesday. The Knights return to action Friday at home against Mendocino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt should be a more competitive match than our first two (wins over Willits and Fort Bragg),\u201d Dobusch said of the upcoming Mendocino match. \u201cWe lost a match to them that we shouldn\u2019t have last year in Mendocino. I\u2019d like to replace that memory with a clean sweep this year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In other CMC North action Friday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Middletown 5, Anderson Valley 0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Hidden Valley Lake, defending CMC champion Middletown opened a new season by sweeping Anderson Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are returning with the same team as last year and the kids are excited to b playing,\u201d Middletown head coach Tony Hart said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Willi Hoskins defeated Damien Eligio 6-4, 6-2 in first singles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWill started out a little slow,\u201d Hart said of Hoskins, who lost his first two games in the first set. \u201cHe was getting his rhythm and sure enough, he cruised the rest of the way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Harrison Brown beat Guy Kephart 6-1, 6-2 in second singles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHarrison and Will challenge ach other daily in practice and as they say, steel sharpens steels,\u201d Hart said. \u201cThey will continue to improve and I a excited for them this year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anthony Lopez defeated Wyatt Gatlin 6-4, 6-2 in third singles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnthony had a strong opener,\u201d Hart said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In doubles action, Jasiah and Leland Pike were 6-0, 6-1 winners over Arturo Garcia and Gryffin Chagoya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Pike brothers kept it rolling,\u201d Hart said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nalu Johnson and Pamatz won by forfeit in second doubles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLuis and Nalu took the forfeit but are also playing tough matches against the brothers and are challenging them,\u201d Hart said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
