{"id":5786,"date":"2026-03-07T19:47:22","date_gmt":"2026-03-07T19:47:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=5786"},"modified":"2026-03-07T19:47:22","modified_gmt":"2026-03-07T19:47:22","slug":"mustangs-notch-first-baseball-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=5786","title":{"rendered":"Mustangs notch first baseball win"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Clear Lake falls to Pleasant Valley, Atwater at Pleasant Valley Tournament<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ROHNERT PARK &gt;&gt; Winning pitcher Jon Hawkins and reliever Cody Perez combined on a one-hitter, striking out nine, and Middletown\u2019s hitters provided all kinds of support as the Mustangs hammered the Credo Gryphon 16-0 in non-league varsity baseball action Friday in Rohnert Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown (1-1) did all of its scoring in the first four innings, including a five-run second and a seven-run third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seven of Middletown\u2019s 11 hits went for extra bases (six doubles, one triple). John Finney led the Mustangs\u2019 hit parade, going 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored while Hawkins helped his own cause by going 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hunter Karp (1-for-3), Austin Davis (1-for-3) and Cody de Jong (1-for-2) drove in two runs apiece. Karp\u2019s and Davis\u2019 hits were doubles. Perez (1-for-3), Hayden Xavier (1-for-2, triple) and Aiden Noonis (1-for-1, double) also drove in runs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hawkins allowed Credo hits and also walked one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown\u2019s defense did not commit an error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mustangs return to action March 17 against Credo at Wes Martin Field in Middletown. First pitch is 4 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other baseball action Friday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pleasant Valley 4, Clear Lake 0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Atwater 13, Clear Lake 3 (5 inn.)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Chico, Clear Lake dropped a 4-0 decision to Pleasant Valley on Friday morning and returned later in the day to lose 13-3 to Atwater in five innings at the Pleasant Valley Tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cardinals (0-3-1) closed out tournament play Saturday against Del Norte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the early game, two Pleasant Valley pitchers combined on a no-hitter against Clear Lake, striking out 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pleasant Valley snapped a scoreless tie with two runs in the sixth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the late Friday game, the Cardinals hurt themselves with six errors.
