{"id":5321,"date":"2026-01-20T22:36:56","date_gmt":"2026-01-20T22:36:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=5321"},"modified":"2026-01-20T22:36:56","modified_gmt":"2026-01-20T22:36:56","slug":"core-four-takes-firsts-in-willits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=5321","title":{"rendered":"CORE four takes firsts in Willits"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Wrestler&#8217;s mom adds fifth first-place medal in dirt bike race<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WILLITS &gt;&gt; Four CORE Wrestling Club members topped the field in their respective divisions last weekend at the Bob Colvig Invitational in Willits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith the 11 wrestlers we took, everyone set small goals in the tournament and worked on achieving them,\u201d CORE coach Danny Cuellar said. \u201cOf course, all goals can\u2019t be achieved, but boy did they work their tails off to get them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bringing home first-place medals were Eric Holley (6-8 under, 53 pounds), who went 3-0 with two pins and one technical fall; William Villa (10-under, 67 pounds), who went 3-0 with one pin; Sampson Wetmore (12-under, 86-98 pounds), who went 4-0 with one technical fall and two wins in sudden-death; and Tucker Heywood (12-under, 98 pounds), who went 3-0 with two pins and one technical fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Second-place medals went to Jessie Taylor Jr (6-8 under, 53 pounds), who went 3-1 with three pins; Jessie Richardson IV (6-8-under, 62 pounds) who went 3-1 with two technical falls; Villa (12-under, 67 pounds), who went 1-1 with one technical fall; and Ryder White Eagle (middle school boys, 132 pounds), who went 2-1 with two pins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bringing home third-place medals were Jonathan \u201cJJ\u201d Blue Jr. (6-8 under, 62 pounds), who went 2-2 with one pin; and Heywood, who double-bracketed for the first time this season, going 2-2 in middle school boys, 100-105 pounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While not all of CORE\u2019s wrestlers came away with medals, many had a successful day nonetheless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne wrestler that comes to mind is Gabriel Ruiz, who set two goals,\u201d Cuellar said. \u201cIn one match he ended up accomplishing a third goal, which was getting his first victory. It was an awesome day or those little things. Also, being able to coach wrestlers without having to say a lot feels real, but to do it with an 8-year-old kid is pretty awesome.
