{"id":5241,"date":"2026-01-13T20:45:17","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T20:45:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=5241"},"modified":"2026-01-13T22:00:35","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T22:00:35","slug":"mtown-mountain-vista-a-teams-notch-wins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=5241","title":{"rendered":"M&#8217;town, Mountain Vista A teams notch wins"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Middletown B squad also picks up a home victory<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MIDDLETOWN >> Sophia Azevedo scored 13 points while teammates Katera Gotz and Sophia Perez each had seven as the Middletown Middle School A team knocked off the Terrace Vikings 30-24 in league action Monday night in Middletown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe game was neck and neck all the way through,\u201d Middletown head coach Wayne Harbison said. \u201cKatera Gotz\u2019s defense proved to be the difference maker in the game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cassie Candelario-Gamez scored nine points for the Vikings while Bella Espinoza had eight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCasse Candelario-Gamez is a one-girl wrecking crew, but Katera Gotz did an amazing job defensively on her,\u201d Harbison said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Harbison praised the strong play he received on offense from Azevedo, Gotz and Perez as well as the outstanding defensive contributions of Gotz, Rylee Gabert and Remmi Harbison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown is now 4-1 in league play and 6-4 overall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown won another close one from Terrace in the B game, 21-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe came out strong in the first quarter and had great ball movement and execution,\u201d Middletown head coach Dustin Fults said of the 10-4 lead the Broncos established in the first quarter. \u201cThen we had a flat second quarter, only scoring two points. The Terrace team did a good job with adjustments the rest of the game, so our shots were more contested.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Added Fults, \u201cOur defense was the difference down the stretch as we got a little more aggressive even after our best defender, Aaliyah Guancayco, fouled out.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lola Fults and Madison Lewis led Middletown with six points apiece. Emmi Hernandez had five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown plays Terrace in Lakeport on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other middle school girls action Monday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mountain Vista 20, Upper Lake 18<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Upper Lake, the Mountain Vista A squad held off Upper Lake in league action, improving to 5-1 in league play and 10-4 overall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis was a defensive struggle and a tight game the entire way,\u201d Mountain Vista head coach Shaun Robinson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mountain Vista had a 7-6 halftime advantage. Though they never led by much, the Lancers were up the entire game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNeither team could break things open,\u201d Robinson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jodeci Meadows\u2019 11 points powered Mountain Vista.
